When Caracas began to expand itself because of the population explosion, there appeared new communities and housing for all those people.
One of these communities is Santa Paula, an urban development comprising mostly for housing for middle- high-class families. Santa Paula has a good dotation of basic services, but don´t has spaces for recreation and culture.
The project objective is to create a building that accommodates several recreational activities including: painting workshops , sculpture workshops, exhibition halls, an amphitheater, and even a pub restaurant.
My design was inspired by the natural life found in the field, and simulates the growth of a tree in three phases: the base (roots), the development (trunk) and the top (crown).
Many people would assume that the building should be made of wood, however the height required by the building, , needs materials which can allow greater stability to add levels. So the building has a central core of stairs, elevators and services, made of concrete, a stone material of high resistance, in which are anchored prefabricated metal beams, and those beams support the plates.
The central structure, is not the only one who bears the burden of the building, there is a metal supporting structure, made of rectangle section profiles range from the base to the top, and it allowes to have more than 10 floors .
Finally, the general appearance of the building is made by glass enclosures which permit to see through it and enjoy the view of Caracas.
